A meta-opinion

What exactly are the media for? They are for perpetuating the idea that opinions matter. Some knowledgeable people define opinion in this sense as a sense of certainty arrived at without knowledge. Thus it is by definition ignorance itself, but with the added and very dangerous element of an unjustified feeling of certainty. What might be of benefit to us at this juncture in our history is knowledge. However, we are tied to a thesis that is anti-knowledge, that postulates that postulating by itself and then arguing the advantages of various postulates may be sufficient. The media keep that alive, as much with experts, who are simply full of opinions, as with the face in the street.
